1. QUESTION:
   Telephone SPY?
   is there anyway that from either a seperate cell phone line or from a landline, someone can listen to previously held conversations on the landline if it is in their name? And how whould that work?
   • ANSWER:
     sometimes ( it doesnt happen very often but it happens) people figure out how to "tap" or steal someone elses phone line. this can be done very easily and cheaply. all someone has to do is go to any phone box on your street, yard , house etc. and open the box and either wire in a phone or wire their house to someone elses phone line. this is highly illegal but it does happen, esp with pervs who want to dial 900 numbers. this can be done with a 3/8" wrench and a pair of pliers. as a telephone repairman i have found this a few times and though it is illegal. it is EXTREMELY difficult to prove unless they are caought on camera or by more than one set of eyeballs because of the he said she said argument. we usually call security and they get involved but rarely does anyone get prosecuted even when they are caught. the other way this happens is when someone gets their phone turned off, we reuse the set of wires for someone else. most of the time you can see if it is still connected to someones house or not with a meter that sees ringers left on the phone line but sometimes esp in an apt building there are none. then you get your phone turned on and someone else moves into that particular apt and realizes that the phone works there even though they didnt order any service. so these people just use the phone as long as noone else is on the line. the can listen to every word you say when there phone is on mute and youll never know. you can call your local phone company and have them send a repairman out to see if he sees ringers on the line or not. if sees anything he can find it . if there are no ringers though this is hard to find if someone is stealing your service. if they are even dumb enough to leave any eqipmebnt on the line. i know this answer is lengthy but there is alot to the question you are asking. no offense to you but most people who ask this question are either doing something illegal themselves over the phone or are just plain paranoid. 99.999% the latter is the case
2. QUESTION:
   How can I prove the telephone guy is a spy?
   Okay, there has been a telephone repair guy out in the parking lot by where I work all week now. The thing is, there is nothing wrong with the telephone lines or internet. I know he's wiring tapping the line for the government. How can I prove it? I don't want to call the police if I can't prove it to them because they will not believe me.
   • ANSWER:
     You probably can't prove it, even in the unlikely event that it's true.

     If he is working for the government, proving it wouldn't do much for you, anyway.

3. QUESTION:
   Is it possible for a spy to drop, hack, jam or disrupt telephone and/or cellphone signals at some moment?
   Me and my friend were having this argument. He says that he know everything about spies, I don't know much, but I know about technology and I know that cellphone signals can be disrupted and that telephone lines can be jammed. but he tells me that SPIES CAN'T disrupt or jam cellphones signal or telephone lines at I'm really curious. Technology is really advance now a days, I'm almost positive is possible. oh and according to him this technology has to be used overseas...since "spies work overseas"
   • ANSWER:
     An old fashioned land-line is more difficult to "jam" but you can disrupt one. Cell phones are easier to jam because all you need is a wide band transmitter that will interfere with a cell phone signal. This can be done in a small area to jam a cell phone that's in that area, or they can jam a site so it can't receive any cell phone signals. This is all easily detected and would be remedied very quickly by the cell company.
     The easier and more effective way is to just hack the phone company computers and shut them down. No phone call, land-line or cell, would get through if the phone company computers were hacked.
     "Overseas" is relative. It means outside of the US to one of our spies, but it will include the US to a spy from another country. Don't think that we're the only ones with advanced technology.
4. QUESTION:
   Did you know the USA government gives immunity to the telephone company that allows them information to spy?
   on US citizens?

   What do you think about the long term consequences of this?

   What about when there are no terrorists? (and did you know that if you are an animal rights activist you are considered a terrorist?)

     They haven't caught any terrorist because of the illegal spying. Illegal spying only helps fascist governments stay in power.

     By the way did they ever catch who was behind the Anthrax terrorist attacks?

     And that was 7 years ago!

5. QUESTION:
   what is a telephone pickup? is it to spy on the call?
   can yu use it without picking up the phone?
   • ANSWER:
     a telephone pick up uses induction to "pick up" the conversation of the phone call...

     these types of devices are typicllay connected to the handset with a suction cup and then to a tape recorder, or other recording device...

     this type of device will not work with a cordless phone handset, nor will it work with a cellular phone...

     it is not a "covert" type of device that can be used to bug or tap a line....

     there are in-line adapters that will connect to a phone jack that when connected to a VOX recorder will record all conversations on the line, these can be covertly installed...

     however keep in mind, in most cases you need at least one person on the phone conversation to allow permission to record calls, and some areas (states, perhaps countries) require ALL parties of the conversation to consent to recording...

     when calling from a place governed by the 1 person consent law, to another area where the law is all parties require consent, or the law for the person being called is unknown, assume all people involved in the conversation require to provide consent to being recorded...

     and the previous answer may have been correct pre-patriot act.. if you read the news, telephone companies have been given RETROACTIVE IMMUNITY in providing access to customers records with out a warrant, and with the patriot act a warrant is NOT required, and when required, can be obtained AFTER the fact.... not to mention ECHELON where the CIA and UKUSA have been monitoring ALL phone and electronic communications for years...
